Binha Haase 하제빛나 (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist and violinist working across film, music and performance. Their practice spans experimental film, video installations and interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of video, music and live performance.
Binha´s work explores queer-feminist topics and questions related to social roles and their (power) dynamics. As a trained musician, sound and music play a central role in their work, both as expressive material and within broader socio-political contexts - engaging with musical histories, genre-specific cultural narratives, and the political symbolism of the human voice. Binha's works have been presented at the Museum of Art Lucerne, the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre Athens, Sonic Matters Zurich, paradoks - Festival for Video Art Leipzig, Oper Halle, the European Media Art Festival Osnabrück, Vienna Shorts, among others. They have been awarded the soundzz.z.zzz...z Prize (Museum of Art Lucerne, 2016) for the interdisciplinary video performance "conductress" (created in collaboration with Silke Strahl) and have received scholarships from the Akademie der Künste Berlin (Initial for emerging artists) and Kunstfonds Bonn (Kickstarter Stipendium), among others. The music theatre work "DRAG SPIRITS: The Poet and the Sun" (co-created with composer Adrian Laugsch; direction, stage and video by Binha) won the NOperas! Competition 2026 and will be produced at Theater Münster and Staatstheater Saarbrücken in 2027.
Binha studied Time-Based Arts at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle with Prof. Michaela Schweiger. They participated in the Professional Media Masterclass Werkleitz (2022) and the Oberhausen Seminar (2023). As a violinist, they move between classical, pop, and contemporary music, performing with ensembles, bands, and orchestras, as well as appearing as a stage musician in opera.
