Binha Haase 하제빛나 (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist and musician, working across film, music and performance. Their artistic work focuses on video installations, experimental film, and interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of video and music performance.
Binha often explores queer-feminist topics and questions related to social roles and their (power) dynamics. As a trained musician, sound and music composition play a crucial role in their work, both as a means of expression and in a socio-political context — whether in relation to musical compositions, musical genres and their embedded cultural-political narratives, or the human voice and its political symbolism. Binha's works have been shown at the Museum of Art Lucerne, the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre Athens, Sonic Matters Zurich, Opera Halle, the European Media Art Festival Osnabrück, Vienna Shorts, among others. They have been awarded the soundzz.z.zzz...z Prize (Museum of Art Lucerne, 2016) and have received scholarships from the Akademie der Künste Berlin and Kunstfonds Bonn, among others.
Binha studied Time-Based Arts at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle with Prof. Michaela Schweiger. They participated in the Professional Media Masterclass Werkleitz (2022) and the Oberhausen Seminar (2023).
