Records of Love (WT - work in progress)
3-channel-installation, currently in post-production, with the premiere scheduled for 2026
In the 3-channel experimental music video installation, two drag performers and a classical opera singer perform „en travesti“ in an old abandoned theater hall. They each present a song from the genres of experimental soul and
Arabic electronics, as well as a classical opera aria written for crossgender casting. Mandhla Ndubiwa is performing her song "Soaked in Sin", Queer Falafel is performing their song "RDM RDM" and Idunnu Münch sings "Non so piu cosa son cosa faccio" by Mozart. In doing so, they also lip-sync the songs or arias of the other two performers, thereby approaching each other‘s genres on a musical and
performative level. In this way, they become co-authors, offering an alternative interpretation to each other‘s performances.
Through the inherently political and cultural narratives embedded in the music genres, not only do different musical genres intersect, but also their cultural narratives. This creates a dialogue between complex interweavings of cultural and gender identities. The equal encounter of folk music, pop music, and art music simultaneously challenges the
artistic primacy of Western aesthetics associated with opera as so-called high culture on both musical and visual levels.
